Top 10 Sewing Tips:

Tip 1: Needle

• Always use Beissel Embroidery needles (130-705 HE Embroidery). This is the ideal needle for all general purpose sewing. There are a large variety of needles designed for sewing application.
• Embroidery needles have a large eye, wide groove and specially designed tip to protect thread as well as cloth.
• Home sewing needles run at speeds up to 750 stitches per minute and even that in most cases sewing is intermittent. So, they are nickel plated which has served well.
• Chrome is harmful to environment because of the effluent the plating generates. Chrome plated needles for regular home sewing is best avoided.

Tip 2: Needle

• The needle point is likely to become dull after about 8 hours of sewing. It will begin to make a bigger hole and a “punching sound” making the machine work harder.
• A needle is the least expensive item in your project. Do not wait for the needle to break. Change to a nice fresh needle after 8 hours of sewing (or) when starting a new project. Your sewing machine will work as it is new!

Tip 3: Needle

• Choose needle size 75/11 for regular thread thickness. If the thread is thick, choose size 90/14.

Tip 4: Needle

• If embroidering with metallic thread, use only Metallic needles (130-705 HM Metallic Needles). These threads have to be handled in a special way since they can break easily.

Tip 7: Sewing Problem

• “Thread nesting” ie., thread knotting up and spooling the embroidery is caused by incorrect machine tension. Make suitable adjustments. Set one piece of cloth and one layer of medium weight cutaway stabilizer on the hoop to help in correct tension for superior embroidery results.

Tip 8: Sewing Problem

• Thread break: Use quality thread and store them in a container so that it does not become dry. A dry thread will break easily.
• Check the needle. If it is old, replace it.
• Throat plate also can have burrs. Incorrect tension, too thick a stabilizer can cause thread breakage.

Tip 9: Sewing Problem

• Puckering: If cloth around embroidery pucker, the tearaway stabilizer must be strong or sturdy enough to support the dense embroidery or tough cloth.

Tip 10: Preparation

• Do test stitch before getting down to business. This way you make sure the design is correctly downloaded, digitizer, stabilizer, fabric, needle, thread etc., work in sync and gives good results.
