Top 10 Sewing Tips:

Tip 1: Needle

  • Use Sewing Machine Needle system DPX5 or 134.

Tip 2: Needle

  • Needle Sizes - 70, 80, 90, 100 and 110. Choose as per thread thickness.

Tip 3: Thread

  • Loose threads on your quilt top should be clipped.

Tip 4: Thread

  • A 40 or 50wt cotton quilting thread is probably one of the most common and widely used options for long arm quilting.
  • The advantage is that cotton thread carries no stretch to it, making it easy to sew with use same weight on top and bottom to maintain good tension

Tip 5: Fabric

  • Pin the bottom to the quilt cloth at reasonably close intervals to keep the fabric smooth for smooth quilting.

Tip 6: Fabric

  • Quilt backing and batting will need to have six inches added to each side (twelve inches larger in length and width). For example, if a quilt top is 64 x 90 inches, the backing and batting should be 76 x 102 inches.

Tip 7: Fabric

  • The quality of the batting and backing is just as important as the quilt top fabrics. Quality material helps ensure the quilt stitching is even and free of bubbles.

Tip 8: Fabric

  • For backings, 100 percent cotton is recommended. In most cases minky, flannel, and fleece are also acceptable backings.

Tip 9: Fabric

  • The backing should be the same type of fabric as the predominant fabric in the top. If the top is primarily made of 100% cotton, please use a 100% cotton for the backing to avoid puckering.

Tip 10: Machine Settings

  • Level the frame - Make sure the machine is level. Position the head at random in right, left, top and bottom locations.
  • If the machine is level, the head will stay still at the location you let go. If it slides, then you need to adjust the height adjusting at the bottom of the machine until the head is table.
