Wing Needles | Size (100 to 120)

Wing Needles Characteristics:

• Give wings to your imagination! The distinct “wings” on either side of the blade creates a small hole in the fabric. Combine this with a suitable decorative stitch and, voila, you have created a beautiful heirloom stitch.
• Available in sizes 90/14, 100/16 and 110/18.
• Works superbly on modern sewing machines such as Babylock, Bernina, Bernette, Brother, Elna, Viking, Janome, Kenmore, Pfaff, Singer and more.
• Cotton thread recommended for super results. The silky smooth eye of the needle will ensure that the cotton thread never gets cut or frayed.
• Caution: Not suitable for Industrial Machines because they require needles with a round shank.

Top 10 Sewing Tips:

Tip 1: Needle

• Wing needle comes in three sizes 100, 110 and 120.
• Size 100 is the most used and recommended. Only Wing needle will help to get the heirloom look.
• The needle does not actually make a hole in the cloth. It is pushing the warp and weft apart to give appearance of hole
• Home sewing needles run at speeds up to 750 stitches per minute and even that in most cases sewing is intermittent. So, they are nickel plated which has served well.
• Chrome is harmful to environment because of the effluent the plating generates. Chrome plated needles for regular home sewing is best avoided.

Tip 2: Needle

• The needle point is likely to become dull after about 8 hours of sewing. It will begin to make a bigger hole and a “punching sound” making the machine work harder.
• A needle is the least expensive item in your project. Do not wait for the needle to break. Change to a nice fresh needle after 8 hours of sewing (or) when starting a new project. Your sewing machine will work as it is new!

Tip 3: Needle

• You may not be able to use automatic threader and must do so manually.

Tip 4: Thread

• Can use contrast colour thread as well. The objective is to see the hole not the thread. So contrast colour does not matter and may even improve overall elegant look.

Tip 5: Thread

• Both bobbin and thread colour must be same.

Tip 6: Stitch Type

• You may not be able to use all stitches which your machine offers.
• Check the manual for stitch types that will work with Wing needles.

Tip 7: Cloth Thread

• Use Cotton or linen cloth only.
• Never use Polyester and man-made fibre because they will not allow holes to remain open.

Tip 8: Stabilizer

• Use wash away stabilizer to give stiffness and avoid puckering during sewing. An alternative is spraying starch.

Tip 9: Presser Foot

• Use open Presser foot or that with a cut-out.

Tip 10: Sewing Style

• The needle goes into the same hole several times and, therefore, it is not a good idea to stitch non-stop.
• Keep stitch speed to slow and stop now and then to control the size and spacing of holes.
