The needle has a comparatively larger eye than universal needles, allowing smooth thread flow during stitching. It is suitable for embroidery with polyester, rayon, and other specialty embroidery threads.

Embroidery needles have a large eye, wide groove and specially designed tip to protect thread as well as cloth. Home sewing needles run at speeds upto 750 stiches per minute and even that in most cases sewing is intermittent. So, they are nickel plated which has served well for as long as one can remember. Chrome is harmful to environment because of the effluent the plating generates.
