At Altek Beissel Needles Limited, we make one thing — sewing machine needles. And we make every kind. In a market dominated by German and Japanese manufacturers, we stand as the sole Indian company capable of competing across the full spectrum.
From woven and knit fabrics to leather, embroidery, and the complete 130/705 home sewing range — every needle we make carries over three decades of accumulated manufacturing discipline, built on a foundation of German engineering and Indian precision.
Since 2003, we have operated as a fully independent Indian company. Today, we are among the very few manufacturers anywhere in the world capable of producing the entire range of sewing machine needles under one roof.

Who Saw a Gap
Altek Beissel Needles was brought to life by S. Ganesh — a Chartered Accountant, Cost & Management Accountant, and Company Secretary. After several decades building expertise in senior managerial roles across India's corporate sector, he identified what no one else had acted upon: India, one of the world's largest garment manufacturing nations, had no domestic manufacturer capable of producing the complete range of sewing machine needles.
In 1997, he partnered with Lammertz of Germany — one of the oldest and most respected needle manufacturers in the world — to establish India's first sewing machine needle factory. That collaboration transferred not just machines and technology, but a rigorous engineering philosophy that continues to define how every Beissel needle is designed and made.
His grounding in finance, compliance, and corporate governance is visible in the structure of the company today: in its BIS certifications, Legal Metrology compliance, transparent pricing, and the discipline with which quality systems are upheld at every level.
German needle technology introduced first time to India
Mr. LeoLammertz and Mr. Stephan Beissel were the pioneers in Sewing machine needles in Germany. The first to set up a factory for machine needles in Aachen, Germany was Mr Stephan Beissel in 1850s and he was quickly followed by Mr. Leo Lammertz Both these companies grew phenomenally and employed more than 15,000 persons at their peak. In 1996, Altek entered into a joint venture with Lammertz who supplied, machines, technology and trained our technicians in their German plant. Lammertz bought back the needles from Altek in India and sold them all over the world
In 2003, Altek became an independent Indian company and extended production range to become one of just two companies in the world to manufacture the entire range of Industrial and Home Sewing machine needles.

BIS certification for sewing machine needles is based on standards identical to Japan Industrial Standards (JIS) — the same benchmark upheld by the world's most demanding needle manufacturers. A BIS-certified Beissel needle is engineered and verified to the same specification as a JIS-certified Japanese needle.

A few years ago, we moved into a newly built manufacturing facility — 75,000 sq. ft. of dedicated production space on a 9-acre plot, designed from the ground up for needle manufacturing at scale.
Located within a Special Economic Zone (SEZ), the facility houses specialised machines and processes at every stage of production. Digital systems, QR-based batch tracking, and structured maintenance practices ensure consistent output across every shift. Our focus is not merely on making needles — it is on making the same needle, to the same standard, every time.
