Jeans / Denim Needle Characteristics:
- Tough guy! Just whom you need to add swagger to a denim, heavy twill, canvas, workwear Engineered with a sharp point for easy penetration, stiffer blade to resist needle deflection/breakage, and skipped stitches.
- Available in sizes 70/10, 80/12, 90/14, 100/16 and 110/18.
- Works superbly on modern sewing machines such as Baylock, Bernina, Bernette, Brother, Elna, Viking, Janome, Kenmore, Pfaff, Singer and more.
- Threads range from synthetic or blends, cotton wrapped polyester, 100% polyester and heavier topstitching threads.
- Caution: Not suitable for Industrial Machines because they require needles with a round shank.
Top 10 Sewing Tips:
Tip 1: Needle
- Always use Beissel Jeans needles (130-705 H J Jeans needle).
- It comes with a sharp tip for easy penetration and reinforced blade to make light work of tough denim garment.
Tip 2: Needle
- The needle point is likely to become dull after about 8 hours of sewing. It will begin to make a bigger hole and a “punching sound” making the machine work harder.
- A needle is the least expensive item in your project. Do not wait for the needle to break. Change to a nice fresh needle after 8 hours of sewing (or) when starting a new project. Your sewing machine will work as it is new!
Tip 3: Needle
- Beissel Jeans needle comes in a wide variety of sizes ie., 70/10, 80/12, 90/14, 100/16, 110/18.
- Choose the right needle based on whether they are lightweight (4-10 oz), medium weight (10-12 oz) of Heavy weight (12-14 oz).
Tip 4: Thread
- Use contrast color thread for effect wherever necessary.
Tip 5: Fabric
- Prewash the denim fabric. Denim will shrink and the chemical will run. You do not want this to happen after finishing the fabric.
- After washing, fabric will become softer and easier to sew.
Tip 6: Scissors
- Use sharp scissors for cutting the fabric (or) fresh blade on rotary cutter.
Tip 7: Sewing Habit
- Denim can stretch. So hold firmly in front and back and guide without stretching.
Tip 8: Presser Foot
- Walking foot is also a good idea. It will guide the fabric along without the denim having to be pulled.
Tip 9: Sewing Style
- Sew slowly especially while sewing over multiple layers.
- Manually turn the knob while sewing over waistband (or) cross seams to avoid breaking.
Tip 10: Sewing Style
- Check machine setting and do a trial run on scrap material to ensure machine, thread, needle, fabric etc., are working in sync.
